On August 3, 2012 U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) released details regarding the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) process.
The DACA program was created for young people who are under the age of 31; entered the United States before age 16; have resided in the country for at least five years as of June 15, 2012; have not been convicted of a felony, a significant misdemeanor, or three other misdemeanors; and are currently in school, graduated from high school, earned a GED, or served in the military.
Individuals may begin to submit applications for deferred action on August 15, 2012. Early requests will be rejected. USCIS will make available a new form for DACA requests. Applicants must pay the $85 biometrics fee, but no additional fee will be charged. Along with the DACA application, a request for work permit can be submitted with the current employment authorization document fee of $365.
USCIS announced that information provided on the DACA form will be kept confidential.
